2 Face Animal Cruelty Charges In Hillsdale County

Two people face animal cruelty charges after Hillsdale County authorities seized 16 malnourished horses from farms in Pittsford and Jefferson townships.

A 44-year-old man and 50-year-old woman face misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty causing death after being arrested Friday, when Michigan State Police and Hillsdale County Sheriff officials seized horses from two farms

Police seized 10 horses from a Pittsford Township farm, and six from a farm in Jefferson Township. Sixteen horses were recovering Monday at a farm in Hillsdale County.

State Police Trooper Tony Weldy tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot the horses were "extremely emaciated'' and one "looked like it would starve to death.''

An Oct. 18 arraignment is set.
