Laura Johnson Misses Custody Hearing

Laura Johnson did not show for her child custody hearing, Tuesday at Oakland County Family Court. The Farmington Hills woman was barred from seeing her two sons earlier this month, after murder charges in the death of her husband, attorney Lloyd Johnson, were dismissed.

But some gruesome discoveries at their home by investigators prompted the order by the family court referee.  Johnson's attorney Deborah McKelvey to the court there was a misunderstanding.

"When I was with her last week, she has indicated to me that she maybe... she has a very ill father in Florida and she maybe was going to go to Florida for a few days," McKelvey said.

A new court date was set for November 5th.

Johnson was accused of killing her husband and practicing medicine without a license after police found surgical instruments, bloody bedding and human tissue in their home.  All charges were dropped after a medical examiner ruled the man's death "accidental," caused by an open wound on his lower back from an old boating injury, complicated by obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cirrhosis and other ailments.
