Harper Woods Mom Charged In Infant's Death

A Harper Woods mother has been jailed on $1 million bond after she was arraigned Wednesday on first degree child abuse charges in the death of her baby boy. According to medical reports, eight-month old George Wilbur had numerous old and new injuries, including skull fractures.

He died October 12th.

His mother, 20-year old Delniece Williams, is charged with first degree child abuse, but could face murder charges once a medical examiner's report is complete.

Willams broke down sobbing, when asked by the judge if she understood the charges against her.

The baby's father, George Wilbur Sr., said he thought he saw signs of abuse three weeks ago.

"When I got him and he had the bite marks, I told Child Protective Services that I feared for my son's life, and they proceeds to still send my son back over there," Wilbur said.

Wilbur was asked who he think abused his son, because Williams had taken up a new boyfriend.

"I pretty much think it was both. It was ... She's probably covering for him, but in the end she's the only one who's going to be doing time for it," he said.

Williams has asked for a court-appointed lawyer. She will be back in 37th District Court next week.
