$14 Million For Ann Arbor Bridge Improvements

Some good news for motorists who travel in and through Ann Arbor. Nearly $14 million dollars has been awarded to the city by the U.S. Department of Transportation for an Ann Arbor Bridges project.

Congressman John Dingell said rebuilding these bridges along the East Stadium Boulevard corridor will improve transportation to the University of Michigan and the stadium and spur economic growth.

"The purpose of this is to, A: create jobs in the rebuilding or replacement of the bridges, and B: to create a tremendous wave of new jobs by improving the transportation," he said.

"So, as to enable the economic development of the kind of new technology and new technology firms that only be produced in a great university and a great university town like Ann Arbor," Dingle said.

Dingell, who fought for the funds, said there was a lot of  competition for the money since infrastructure improvements are needed nationwide.

Work on the bridges is expected to begin by next spring.
