Bing Returns To Syracuse For Homecoming

Detroit mayor and former NBA great and Hall-of-Famer Dave Bing is leaving Detroit City Hall and going back to the hardwood at Syracuse University.

Spokeswoman Karen Dumas says Bing has agreed to toss up the ceremonial jump ball Friday night before an NBA preseason game between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves at the Carrier Dome.

Dumas says the ceremony is part of the school's homecoming weekend and ``a reunion of sorts for the mayor with the Pistons playing at Syracuse.''

Bing was the second overall draft pick in 1966 by Detroit out of Syracuse. His college roommate was current Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim (BAY'-heim).

Bing is an ex-steel supply company owner and became mayor in May 2009.
