Sex Offender Sweep

Thousands of people on Michigan's "Sex Offender" Registry could be paid a visit by state police troopers beginning this week.

State police say 3,400 registered sex offenders have failed to verify their address information, which they are required to do every three months. Penalties range from 93 days in jail to four years in prison.

Michigan has more than 46,000 sex offenders in the registry. Police say the vast majority comply with the address verification requirement.
The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry database is available online to the public at http://www.mipsor.state.mi.us/.

The state police maintain a web site for its most-wanted sex offenders at www.michigan.gov/absconders.
