Supporters Rally To Keep Mich. Film Tax Breaks

Supporters of Michigan's film tax incentive will rally in Grand Rapids Tuesday urging lawmakers in Lansing not to get rid of those tax breaks.

WWJ spoke with talent agent Melinda Peterson who said it's too soon to talk ending these incentives.

"Two years just isn't long enough.  We're finally just getting the infrastructure set up to make this industry happen," Peterson said.

"There's so many auxiliary businesses that have come to light that have been given work that probably didn't even realize that the could work in and impact the film industry," she said.

Peterson says increased film and TV productions have help create jobs in related fields like catering and photography, since actors need head shots.

Critics say the incentives have not brought in enough jobs and tax revenue to make them worth the cost.
