Work To Begin To Demolish Old Detroit High School
Preliminary work toward demolishing Detroit's old Cass Technical High School is set to get underway November first.
The heavy-duty work won't begin until next June, after school is out for summer vacation. The building has been vacant since the new Cass Tech was opened next door in 2005.
The old building has been subjected to repeated vandalism and fires since it closed. Some artifacts from the abandoned structure, including plaques and entry arches, will be preserved at the currrent school.
Detroit Public Schools emergency financial manager Robert Bobb told the Detroit News, "We are pleased that we can preserve various artifacts and bricks from the original Cass Tech to honor the rich legacy of this school."
Demolition is slated to be completed in August, 2011.
