Macomb Twp. Dad Who Shot Daughter Charged
A Macomb Township man accused of accidentally shooting his 12-year-old daughter while cleaning a handgun has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse.
Macomb County Sheriff's Capt. John Roberts tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens that 40-year-old Garry Bushey turned himself in Wednesday to face charges including fourth-degree child abuse, a one-year misdemeanor, and reckless use of a firearm, punishable by up to 90 days in jail if convicted.
Bushey was released on a $1,000 personal bond. Court officials did not know if he had a lawyer.
Police said Bushey pulled the trigger without realizing a bullet was in the chamber. The girl suffered a non-life-threatening wound to her wrist and leg.
A preliminary exam is scheduled for later this month in Shelby Township district court.
