Ex-DPS Board President Gets Probation

A former Detroit School Board president has been sentenced to two years probation following allegations that he fondled himself during a meeting with a district employee.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Tuesday in a release that Circuit Court Judge Vera Massey Jones also ordered Otis Mathis to have no contact with ex-schools Superintendent Teresa Gueyser, no unsupervised contact with children, community service and restitution.

Mathis had pleaded no contest to a charge of misconduct in office.

Gueyser filed a complaint against Mathis in June. She has claimed discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination in a suit against the district.

Mathis wrote in his June 17 resignation letter that he "made inappropriate actions toward a professional employee of the board.''
