Family Shattered Following Fatal Crash

A Canton Township family is shattered after a fatal crash in Washtenaw County.

It appears the tragic accident was caused by a drunk driver. Police say a car blew through a red light at the corner of Ecorse and Harris at a high rate of speed Tuesday afternoon. In doing so, it struck a car going through that intersection, killing a 32-year-old Canton Township woman and seriously injuring two children. A 13-year-old, at last report, was in critical condition at University of Michigan Hospital. An 11-year-old child suffered what was described as non-life threatening injuries. Three other cars were also involved in the crash.

A 34-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, who was at the wheel of the car that ran the red light, tried to make a run for it, but was collared by a deputy arriving at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are seen as factors in the crash. The driver is now facing a list of felony charges.
