Woman Killed, Kids Injured In Drunk Driving Crash

Police say it was a drunken driver who caused a five-car crash in Ypsilanti Township that killed a woman and injured two kids.

Police say a car blew through a red light at the corner of Ecorse and Harris at a high rate of speed. In doing so, that vehicle struck a car going through the intersection, killing the 32-year-old Canton Township woman and injuring two children.

A 13-year-old boy remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon at University of Michigan hospital, but he is expected to recover.  An 11-year-old girl also suffered what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Three other cars were also involved in the crash.

The 34-year-old man at the wheel of the car that ran the light tried to escape the scene, but was apprehended by a deputy.  Police say both alcohol and high speed were factors in the crash.

The driver, who was driving on a suspended license, is expected to face a list of felony charges.
