High-tech Geography Lessons
Geography has changed as a subject since you were in school. While students a generation ago memorized state capitals to learn geography, technology has changed the way students learn the subject today. The most important new technology is Geographic Information Systems, the software that keeps track of where things are electronically. Businesses and governments use GIS for planning and tracking, and careers in the field have been steadily increasing. A free and simple version of mapping software is available at edcommunity.esri.com that will allow kids to label a world map on their home computer.
