Use Picture Books As A Hook
Drawing kids into reading chapter books can be difficult for readers in between the picture book state but still not ready for page after page of text.
In some cases, picture books, graphic novels and comic books that are based on chapter books can serve as a hook for younger readers. Since elementary age students have no problem with repeating a storyline, they might read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe picture book, and then turn to the original version by C.S. Lewis. Using the pictures as bait can draw kids in to books they otherwise might not try.
