HFCC Gets New Work Force Development Director: Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn has welcomed Tricia N. Llewellyn as the college's new director of work force development. In this role, Llewellyn will manage and direct workforce development activities, including oversight responsibility for the HFCC Michigan Technology Education Center, an entity that works closely with businesses in southeast Michigan to work smarter and improve the skills of all employees working in the knowledge-based economy. She will serve as liaison between the college and state, regional, county, and local workforce agencies, partners and employers in developing workforce training programs. Llewellyn comes to the institution with a number of goals and objectives in mind to establish new relationships with business and industry, and to develop new career opportunities for the highly skilled workforces of southeast Michigan. "My expectation is to work closely with HFCC, corporate partners and the southeast Michigan community to develop and deliver innovative workforce training solutions that will positively impact the region," she said. Before joining Henry Ford Community College, Llewellyn served as the Meeting Employer Needs Division director at DELEG's Bureau of Workforce Transformation. Some of her duties included working with work force development agencies, education, economic development agencies and community partners to develop innovative solutions to employer identified workforce issues. Prior to this position, she worked at Chrysler LLC in various roles within government affairs and sales and marketing. She holds an MBA from Michigan State University and bachelor of arts from Hebert Lehman College in the Bronx, N.Y. As part of the 1998 Michigan Skilled Worker Initiative, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. funded the construction of 18 Michigan Technical Education Centers around the state. The Henry Ford Community College M-TEC specializes in training programs in high-wage, high-skill and high-demand occupations. A visionary program utilizing the latest in technology and training, the M-TEC at Henry Ford Community College is a 30,000-square-foot specialized facility built entirely with a $5 million state grant for training, retraining and updating job skills of Ford Motor Co. workers, the workers of other Michigan companies and the general public. The center targets advanced manufacturing, health care, information technology, education, and the green economy.
