Fans Fight To Keep Troy Library
A group of Troy library fans is filing 2,500 petition signatures to keep the institution afloat. Voters turned down four millage proposals last week to a fund a new library board.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke to Ed Kempen, with the group "Friends of the Library with No New Taxes."
"Right now, I think our best option is to go back to the budget and continue to find other cuts in city services so that we can maintain our library," Kempen said.
"It was very easy to get the signatures. Everybody has known our library for pretty much the whole time they've lived in Troy," he said.
Residents planned to present the petition to the Troy City Clerk on Tuesday.
Unless another source of funding can be found, the Troy Library is slated to close next year.
