Family Honors Memory Of Fallen Mi Soldier

Family members of a fallen Michigan soldier are honoring his memory by helping his platoon.

Twenty-three year-old Private Shane Reifert from St. Clair County's Cottrelleville Township was killed in action in Afghanistan Saturday. And now the family has set up a blog so people can make donations -- which will be used to send care packages to other soldiers in Reifert's platoon.

Meantime, Reifert's mother, Kitty, says they are still waiting for his body to come to Michigan, but a ceremony was held in Delaware this past weekend.

"It was heartfelt. I stayed strong for Shane. I keep on saying 'I'm going to be army strong for you buddy.' And I just said the whole time, 'I'm ever so proud. I'm ever so proud. I'm ever so proud,'" Kitty told WWJ.

Kitty says her son was living his dream.

Reifert was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Fort Campbell, Ky.
