GOP Chooses Legislative Leaders

Michigan Republicans, who gained a majortiy in both houses of the state Legislature in last week’s elections, have chosen their leadership team.

Senate Republicans picked Randy Richardville of Monroe to be their majority leader starting in January. He’ll succeed Mike Bishop of Rochester, who is term-limited.

In the lower chamber, which had been in Democratic hands before the election, the new House Speaker is Rep. James “Jase” Bolger of Marshall.

Democrats selected Rep. Richard Hammel of Mount Morris Township in Genesee County to be House minority leader. Last week, Democrats picked Gretchen Whtmer of East Lansing as Senate minority leader.
