Man Killed In Wrong Way Driving Crash

An early Thursday morning accident involving a wrong way driver on the Lodge Freeway leaves an Oak Park man dead and the other driver in the hospital.

Michigan State Police at the Detroit Post tell WWJ a woman was driving north in the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway, M-10, just after 12:30 a.m. when the accident happened near Grand River Avenue. The cars collided head-on.

Troopers say the driver who was killed was in his early 40's.

Both drivers were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where man was pronounced dead. The female driver remains hospitalized.

The investigation says alcohol was "a direct factor" in the crash.

The freeway was closed for four hours while the investigation was conducted.
