Teen To Stand Trial In Death Of Michigan Girl

A trial has been ordered for a 16 year-old boy accused of kicking a rock that struck and killed a west Michigan girl in Colorado last June.

The boy, who is from Texas, pleaded not guilty Friday to a manslaughter charge in the death of 17 year-old Audra Brownell of Sparta, near Grand Rapids.

Prosecutors say a boulder the boy kicked rolled 30 down a cliff in an open space in the northern Colorado resort town of Estes Park, striking and killing Brownell, who was vacationing with a church group.

The trial is set to begin February first. If convicted as charged, the maximum penalty the 16 year-old could face would be two years in a juvenile detention facility.
