Texas reliever Neftali Feliz has beaten out Detroit Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson for the American League rookie of the year award, it was announced this afternoon.
The voting for this year’s award was done by 28 members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. The result was announced at 2 p.m.
Jackson had never played in the majors when the Tigers acquired him from the Yankees in the Curtis Granderson trade last December. From the start of this season, Jackson took over both of Granderson’s roles, leadoff hitter and center fielder.
