Mich. Woman Charged In Theft Of $350K From Mother
A 49-year-old Westland woman has been charged in the theft of more than $350,000 from her elderly mother. The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Monday that Carol Brazeika was arraigned on three counts of embezzlement over $100,000, five counts of identity theft and other charges.
Authorities say the retirement, pension and Social Security funds were taken from Brazeika's 76-year-old mother over five years.
The older woman's identity also was used to open credit card accounts and to obtain loans.
Brazeika's bond was set at $350,000. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Dec. 2.
She has requested a court-appointed lawyer.
