Friday After Thanksgiving: Relax And Enjoy The Season

The Friday following Thanksgiving can be a hectic day. Black Friday sales will have many shoppers out and about, but there is even more to do than catch a great sale.

At 7-11 it's Purple Friday! To celebrate people coming together over a Slurpee, 7-Eleven is offering the public a free, small Slurpee drink on "Purple Friday." To receive their free Slurpee, consumers need to print off a required, redeemable coupon available only on Nov. 26 and only on the Slurpee Facebook page

Spend the day embracing the holiday spirit with the Nutcracker. The Grand Rapids Ballet is coming to the Opera House in Detroit, and the shows between November 26 and 28th are a perfect get together for the family.

The Family matinees start at 2:30 pm (doors open at noon) and include buffet lunch, photo sessions with Santa, live reindeer, face painting, and a Sugar Plum parade. There are shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm as well.

Ticket prices range from $29 - $76. Special discounts for families are available. Howell's 27th Annual Fantasy of Lights Parade, will be held on Friday the 26th at 7 p.m. A great place to start the season by watching floats light up the night, and listening to cheerful holiday music. For more information CLICK HERE

Kicking off on November 26th, the 2010 Holiday Walk will highlight childhood treasures from Meadow Brook's heyday. This year's decorations offer a childlike sense of wonder, featuring period toys, trains and family photographs. The event runs on Friday November 26 from 11 am to 5 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for children 17 and under (accompanied by an adult); children age 2 and under are free. On Tuesdays and Thursdays seniors age 62 and older will receive $5 off admission. All tours are self-guided and reservations are not required. CLICK HERE for more information

The Fillmore Detroit presents "Alto Reed's AllStar Thanksgiving Celebration" event on November 26 at 7 pm. Headlining the event is Alto Reed, founding and current member of Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, who will perform with his Motor City AllStars featuring The Groove Council. They will be joined by featured guests Martha Reeves and Mitch Ryder, along with a variety of Detroit-grown musical talents and well-known performers from different genres.

Proceeds from the event support Goodwill Industries programs that help our Southeast Michigan friends and neighbors to overcome employment challenges and become trained, trusted and ready to work.

  • 9:00 a.m. Grosse Pointe Lions Club presents the 14th annual Happy Holidays Jingle Bell Walk / Run
  • 10:00 a.m. The 35th annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade
  • 4:30 p.m. The Authentic Dickens Carolers in concert, Kercheval at St. Clair
  • 5:00 p.m. The Village Aglow tree-lighting ceremony
