Settlement In Flyaway Cash Case

Lawyers for two armored car drivers who claim they were fired after the car's doors blew open, spilling more than $160,000 across Interstate 75, say their clients have reached a confidential settlement.

A lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit claims Maxine White of Redford Township and James Flanders III of Oak Park were fired after taking polygraph tests about the June 11, 2009, incident near the Hamtramck-Detroit border. The suit says Flanders passed, and White's results were inconclusive.

Motorists grabbed some of the money. About $160,000 remains missing.

The Michigan State Police declined comment to The Detroit News, but lawyers involved in the case say there have been no arrests.

A settlement notice has not been filed with the court. A Dec. 15 conference is scheduled.
