Detroit 'Castle' Reduced To Pile Of Rubble
One of Detroit's historic buildings -- known as the castle -- has been reduced to a pile of bricks.
Preservations are upset because most of the old Luben apartment building, located in Brush Park on Watson at John R, has been leveled by a demolition crew. A fire early Sunday morning gutted the building and higher-ups in the Detroit Fire Department say the demolition was needed to keep crews from getting hurt during the fire investigation.
Area resident Gregory Bell isn't happy. "They just tore it down this quick and what they need to do is these abandoned houses that's already been standing, they need to tear those down more faster than just tearing down the history of Detroit," Bell told WWJ's Vickie Thomas.
Reportedly, at least two homeless people had been living inside the building.
