Metro Detroit’s hunger and poverty problems are magnified over the holiday season.
Gleaners Community Food Bank hopes to make a big difference all day Monday. Gerry Brisson from Gleaners says every donation made on Monday will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
“This is a day where everyone’s gift is matched dollar-for-dollar and we have a couple of very generous donors: PNC and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, who are matching dollars all day,” Brisson told WWJ Newsradio 950. “Every dollar we raise, we’re gonna be able to match.”
This means that the $1 donation Gleaners normally turns into three nutritious meals will provide six meals.
During the months of November and December, Gleaners will distribute over eight million pounds of food throughout Southeast Michigan, helping 100,000 hungry families in need.
Gleaners hopes to raise $250,000 during “Double Donation Day” Monday.
Secure donations can be made by calling 1-866-GLEANER (453-2637).
All gifts are tax deductible and can qualify for a special State of Michigan tax credit.
