Goodfellows Newspaper Sale

Detroit Goodfellows are hitting the streets Monday morning to hawk a special edition of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.

It's all part as part of the 96th annual Old Newsboys' Goodfellows Fund drive.

Newspapers are sold for any donation and all money raised goes toward the group's 2010 fundraising goal of $1.3 million. Volunteers will be selling newspapers from several Detroit locations, including:

Cadillac Place
Guardian Building
Renaissance Center
Coleman A. Young Municipal Center
Penobscot Building
Eastern Market

Previous fund drives have typically raised over $100,000.

The Goodfellows are planning to distribute 36,000 gift packages to children between the ages of 4 and 13 in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park and River Rouge between Dec. 6 and Dec. 18. It's estimated at one out of every three Detroit Public schoolchildren receives a holiday gift box from the Detroit Goodfellows.

Donated items include clothes, books, toys, games and candy.
