Compuware Gomez Index Shows Web Sites Performed Well On Cyber Monday

Gomez, the Web performance division of Detroit-based Compuware Corp. (Nasdaq: CPWR), Wednesday said that the top 15 Web retailers in the United States performed well on Cyber Monday results based on the Gomez Retail UX (User Experience) Index.

The Index provides an aggregate performance of major Web and mobile applications and an estimation of user satisfaction based on the Apdex methodology.

The solid performance emphasizes the Top 15 retailers' focus on optimizing site design and infrastructure for this peak buying period.

However, the performance of the Internet Retailer Top 500 U.S. Web retailers did not fare as well. At mid-morning on Cyber Monday, the Top 500 dipped below historical performance levels, scoring a 63 on the Gomez Retail UX Index compared to 65 for the previous Mondays. This dip reflects an estimated drop in user satisfaction.

The Mobile Web provided the greatest challenge for the Top 15 retailers. The Gomez Retail UX Index declined by 6.25 percent compared with previous Mondays, with a majority of the 15 top mobile sites experiencing moderate or more significant decreases in the UX Index ratings versus previous Mondays, reflecting an estimated decrease in user satisfaction.

"While the four and a half percent degradation in performance among the Top 500 may not seem like much, retailers are competing for every online dollar this holiday season. Any reduction in performance impacts top line revenue," said Matt Poepsel, vice president of performance strategies at  Gomez. "Online retailers were looking to maximize their online Web and mobile sales during this peak buying season, but mobile performance lagged behind traditional Web results indicating that even the top retailers are still evolving their mobile performance strategies."

The Gomez Retail UX Index provides an hourly score based on the aggregate Web and mobile performance of the Top 15 U.S. retail websites, the Top 15 U.S. mobile sites and the Internet Retailer Top 500 U.S. Web retailers. The index provides:

* hourly site performance trending data during a peak usage period (Black Friday through Cyber Monday) compared to a performance baseline during a non-peak period;
* a comparison of the performance of websites vs. mobile sites vs. the Internet Retailer Top 500 during this peak usage period;
* intraday trending data for how sites are performing, demonstrating how performance is impacted as shopping activity increases during peak usage periods; and
* a single UX Index score for Web and mobile performance taking into account response time, availability and consistency.
