Rally To Extend Unemployment Benefits

Chanting "Fight, Don't Starve, Extend Unemployment Benefits Now," a small group of protestors wants to send a message to Governor Granholm.

The demonstrators gathered, Thursday, outside the State of Michigan building on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, protesting the loss of unemployment benefits.

One of the protestors, Derrick Grigsby, of  Detroit, was laid off from the Detroit Water and Sewage Department in 2009. He, along with others, is calling on Governor Jennifer Granholm to push for an extension of unemployment benefits. "I don't have any insurance and I'm over 50, the Governor needs to step up to the plate…and propose a moratorium on foreclosures, utility shut-offs and evictions." Grigsby told WWJ's Pat Sweeting.

Grigsby went on to say, "We should not only extend the benefits, but we should have some sort of legislation where if you are unemployed you get benefits until you find a job."
