Will former state representative Mary Waters be able to withdraw her guilty plea in a bribery scheme? trans Waters Considers Withdrawing Guilty PleaHer new court-appointed attorney Melvin Houston says Waters chances are quite slim.

The Detroit lawyer tells WWJ that he hasn’t talked to his new client yet, but says he will tell her the statistics of winning any appeal. “I don’t think I’m going to be giving her any new information about her prospects or her chances, so from that stand point I don’t think my telling her will change her opinion in any way. If nothing else….she will at least be aware of what will happen once this process proceeds.”

Houston says withdrawing a guilty plea in front of 6th District Court in Detroit is even more difficult than winning an appeal.

Waters pleaded guilty in May to filing a fraudulent tax return and accepting a $6 thousand dollar watch as compensation for her work involving the relocation of a pawn shop.
