Forgotten Harvest Receives Large Food Donation
Five tons of chicken have been delivered to Forgotten Harvest to help feed the needy in Metro Detroit.
Volunteers and workers from Indiana-based Miller Amish Country Poultry, a distributor to Kroger's Michigan stores, transferred 10,000 pounds of chicken from refrigerated trucks into Forgotten Harvest freezers late Wednesday morning. 
Forgotten Harvest will distribute the food Wednesday and Thursday to 150 charitable agencies.
Forgotten Harvest spokesman John Owens says the organization relies on a number of organizations and volunteers.
"We couldn't operate without the donated food that we get," Owens told WWJ's Pat Sweeting. "This year we'll deliver 19.4 million meals, all the food is donated, all of our trucks are donated, and we run the trucks on donations from individuals and companies, everything we do is donated, without the community we wouldn't exist."
Kroger has worked with Forgotten Harvest for ten years. Kroger is on target to deliver over four million pounds of food to Forgotten Harvest this year.
