Adopt A Family This Holiday Season

The Volunteers of America Michigan Adopt A Family program is underway with the organization hoping to help over 4,000 families, which include 20,000 children.

Andrea Glenn turned to Volunteers of America after her mother died suddenly, leaving her to care for her niece and two nephews. Working a part-time job and not knowing how she would make ends meet, Andrea turned to Volunteers of America Michigan's program hoping to get help. Now she's just grateful for a chance to make the holidays bright for her and her family.

"I'm very blessed, I appreciate you...the Glenn family appreciates you," Glenn said while talking about the program.

Another person seeking help was Barbara Watkins who lost everything when a pipe busted in her home causing the ceiling and walls to collapse.

"We lost furniture, clothes," Watkins said. "We have nothing and it's kind of hard starting over with 5 children, Christmas for us would be to get our home together."

Watkins said she prayed for a miracle and then she heard about the Volunteers of America Michigan Adopt A Family program.

More than 9,600 families have already applied to the Adopt A Family program this year.

The program matches families and seniors in need with individual and/or corporate sponsors who "adopt" them for the holidays.

As a sponsor for a family, you can make a cash donation or sponsor directly. Either way, a family in need will receive:

  • New clothes for each child
  • Toys or gift items for each child
  • Food for the whole family
