The union representing Wayne County workers is ready to go to court over a mandatory pay cut.

AFSCME heads to court tomorrow to ask a judge to stop Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano from imposing a 20 percent pay cut on its members.

AFSCME Local 1659 president Joyce Ivory says they want a court order to block a 20 percent pay cut.
“Forty three percent of our members make under 30 thousand dollars a year…They can barely feed their families,” says Ivory.

“Our members are living in shelters. I have homeless members. I have members living in hotels, members who have lost their homes, while he’s consistently hiring these politicians…”adds Ivory.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano says the union rejected a contract offer that would have resulted in a smaller reduction in pay for some of those workers.
