Vikings Play Giants At Ford Field

The game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants is coming to Detroit's Ford Field Monday night. This after the roof of the Vikings' Metrodome collapsed under the weight of snow from a storm that passed through Minneapolis on Saturday.

The game was originally rescheduled for Monday night in Minnesota after the Giants' flight was diverted to Kansas City because air travel in Minnesota was shut down.

After Sunday morning's roof collapse, Metrodome officials told the league the roof wouldn't be ready in time to play Monday or Tuesday. The league had discussions with Detroit and Indianapolis and ultimately decided to hold the game at Ford Field.

The delay has given Vikings quarterback Brett Favre more time to heal his sprained right shoulder and see if he can extend his NFL-record streak of 297 straight games started.

The game between the Vikings and the Giants kicks off at 7:20 p.m. Eastern Time.

The event will be free for any Detroit sports fan. There will be preferred seating for anybody with an original Sunday ticket to the Minnesota/New York Giants game. Anybody who has a ticket to Sunday's Lions/Packer game, their ticket stub will be good for general admission seating Monday.

The Metrodome roof has failed three times before. It deflated in 1981, 1982 and 1983, each time caused by heavy snow.
