DSO Cancels Remaining 2010 Concerts

The sounds of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra won't be ringing out of Orchestra Hall until sometime in 2011.

The long-running musicians' strike, plus the lack of any discernable progress in contract talks, has prompted the orchestra to cancel all performances through the end of the year. That includes the popular Home for the Holidays concerts slated for this Thursday through Sunday, as well as the December 21st performance featuring the Canadian Brass. Tonight's Manhattan Transfer Christmas concert is still on.

Musicians have been striking since October 4th. Management of the financially-struggling DSO implemented a 33-percent pay reduction. The union countered with 22-percent and the impasse was on.
