On January 1, 2011, Mark Hackel will take office as Macomb County’s first County Executive.
WWJ’s Ron Dewey spoke with Macomb County Chairman Paul Gillghem, outgoing chairman of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, about the pending change in the county government to executive style — the challenges ahead and the accomplishments of the past two years.
Hackel has named Damian Kassab as Assistant County Executive. Kassab will be one of three key advisors in the new Macomb County Executive office. The former banker and Chairman of the Michigan Gaming Control Board has been a close policy advisor to Sheriff Hackel during the past two years.
Kassab will lead a team that will take an in-depth look at the county’s budget and financial issues, as well as, planning and economic development.
