Utica High Students Hit By Van

Two Utica High School students are hospitalized after they were hit by a van while walking to class Thursday morning. 

Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Leman tells WWJ Newsradio 950 the 11th graders, a boy and girl, were crossing Shelby Road just north of 21 Mile Road when they were hit. 

The van driver told police he had just sprayed windshield washer fluid that froze and he didn't see the students until it was too late. 

The teens were taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital with serious injuries.  However, witnesses say they were able to talk with school workers who rushed to the scene to help. 

The investigation is ongoing.  A report will be given to prosecutors who will determine if any charges will be filed.
