The fight over rewriting the city charter is the latest in a long list of battles between Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and the city council.
The council wants to add two more council members and to expand its powers. Bing wants more say in contracting and to eliminate the city’s ombudsman.
Bing says he hopes his relationship with city council will get better in the future.
“We all were elected to make this a better city. And, us fighting each other — not that I agree with everything they do, nor do they agree with everything that we do — but we can’t have these fights and this discord,” Bing said.
Bing says he respects the city council but they need to know how to respect him.
