Deadly Accidents Claim 3 Lives On I-75

During the overnight, it was I-75 in Troy.  Then, early Monday morning, I-75 in Southwest Detroit was the scene of another deadly freeway crash.

State police tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that a man was stranded on northbound I-75 near Outer Drive after his car ran out of gas. He jumped over the median wall, crossed the southbound lanes without incident, and got a gas can at a nearby station. He went back across the southbound lanes, hopped over the median wall, back across the northbound lanes. As he attempted to cross the three lanes, he was struck and killed by an oncoming car.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Meanwhile, during the overnight hours, a crash on the southbound side of I-75 killed two people in Troy.

Police officials say their initial investigation shows that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control on the freeway due to the speed, went off the roadway and crashed into the trees.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor, adding that tests will be conducted to determine whether alcohol was involved.

The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Dennis Greene of Detroit and his cousin, 30-year-old Tamara Green. The two had been at the Detroit Pistons game at the Palace and went to an area restaurant following the game.

Troy Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Traffic Safety Unit at 248-524-2477.
