Bill Changes Ahead For Michigan Utility Customers

Utility bills for many customers will be affected by orders this week from the Michigan Public Service Commission.

Consumers Energy was ordered to refund $10.7 million to natural gas customers because a self-implemented rate increase was more than the final amount approved by regulators. A typical residential customer could get a refund of $4.73 for January.

Consumers Energy residential electric customers could see a 1.45 percent increase on their January bills because of an order related to decommissioning the Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant.

A typical Detroit Edison residential electric customer could get a refund of $6.08 for January because of an order for the utility to refund $26.9 million.   Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. residential gas customers could see monthly bills rise $2.94 over a 12-month period.
