Reward Offered In Search For Murder Suspect

Crimestoppers has teamed up with police in asking for the public's help in finding a man who wanted for shooting into a crowd last summer, killing a Detroit teen.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Florence Walton spoke, Wednesday, with Detroit police officer Johnell White who's the lead investigator on the case.

White says 16-year-old James Hudson was an innocent victim who was murdered by 26-year-old Keith Henderson on July 21, near the Marathon gas station at Glenfield and Leroy St. in Detroit.

"He fired several shots in the direction of a crowd. He didn't know who he was going to hit. He cleared the jam on his weapon and he continued to fire several more shots -- striking out victim, James Hudson who then collapsed," White said.

Hudson's mother is asking for the anyone with information to please speak up.

"James was a sweetheart. There wasn't nothin' he wouldn't do for anybody. He loved his family," said Hudson's mother, Yolanda Hunter. "He loved playing ball, spending time with his grandparents, at his uncle's barber shop. He was looking forward to graduating," she said.

Hunter said that, just before he was killed, her son was working on getting a state identification card so he could get a summer job.

Officer White says Henderson should be considered dangerous and has threatened that he won't be arrested without a fight.

Police believe Henderson is still somewhere in Detroit, and Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. The public can call in tips to 1 (800) Speak-Up. You can also text in your tip to 274637 or CRIMES.
