Roseville Police Investigate Suspected Child Abuse

Police in Roseville investigate a possible case of child abuse.  It happened Christmas evening when officers were dispatched to an area hospital emergency room regarding a possible case of child abuse.

The investigation revealed that the 13 month-old child had suffered second degree burns to its feet, believed to have been caused by a Bic lighter and had a multitude of bruises about the back, buttocks and head that were consistent with intentionally inflicted abuse. The child remains hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the last person to have custody of the child was the suspect -- identified as Scott Carlson.  Carlson is the boyfriend of the child's mother and was watching the child while the mother was at work.  According to police, upon being questioned, Carlson gave officers vague and inconsistent answers as to how the child had been injured.

Detectives of the Roseville Police Department investigated this incident throughout Christmas night and into the day Sunday and were able to develop enough probable cause to seek a warrant from the Macomb County Prosecutors Office charging Carlson with two counts of Child Abuse.  His preliminary examination date  is January 6th
