Ford Unveiling New Technology

Ford Motor Company is taking the wraps off of a new technology Monday that could mean an instant 10 percent fuel economy improvement.

Ford calls it: Auto Start Stop. WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert says, it shuts off your engine at intersections like we now see in hybrids, but this will be migrating to conventional vehicles starting in 2012.

Ford Product Development Chief Derek Kuzak says they've been working to put in the system so it's seamless to drivers. "We've been working on a lot about that technology before comfortable in offering it," Kuzak said. "One element is start time, another is quietness."

Systems like Auto Start Stop will be needed to meet future fuel economy rules and Kuzak said the technology will quickly expand through the Ford fleet.
