Detroit Teen Safe After Being Kidnapped At Gunpoint

An Amber Alert is issued -- then cancelled -- after a report of a teenager in Detroit being kidnapped for ransom.

Detroit Police are still piecing details together, but from what information has been released so far, a 15-year-old boy identified as Anthony Lawrey, was returning home with his mother around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday - in the West Parkway and Belton area on Detroit's far west side near Redford - when they were approached by two armed men who abducted Lawrey and took off.

That prompted an Amber Alert and police were brought in a short time later, about the time abductors called the house and spoke to Lawrey's father. They demanded a ransom for the boy's return. An initial figure given of $80,000 could not be later confirmed by Detroit Police. But, they say the father then left the home and returned just after 4:00 Wednesday morning with his son, safe and sound.

Where the father went and how he was able to get his son back remain unclear. Police have not released any further details.
