Many Metro Detroiters will bring in the New Year with some Divine inspiration.

“Watchnight Services” will be held at various churches in and around the city.

In many Christian traditions, Watchnight celebrations are held late at night on New Year’s Eve and end after midnight. The service is a festive celebration with singing, dancing, poetry and other ministry performances.

The message of the night is designed to inspire those who attend to reflect on the year passed and prepare for the year ahead.  Food and fellowship usually follows the service.

Here are some services planned for New Years’ Eve:

Historic Trinity Lutheran Church, 7:00 p.m., celebration with a special New Year’s Eve Service,  featuring festival settings of the hymns with brass quintet.  The Rev. Dr. David Eberhard, Pastor of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church,  will present the message.  Following the 7:00 p.m. worship service, in the Huegli Auditorium of Otte Hall (free-will offering),  there will be refreshments and a Champagne Toast “To the Year 2011”.
