Remains Of USS Revenge Discovered

A team of divers say they've discovered the remains of the USS Revenge, a ship commanded by U.S. Navy hero Oliver Hazard Perry and wrecked off Rhode Island in 1811. Charles Buffum is one of the divers who made the find.

"It's been lost in history and not many people know about it, it's documented but you ask people around here if they've heard about the USS Revenge." Buffum said.

Diver Buffum says he and his partners were initially shocked by what they found. "All of the sudden the medal detector starts singing out and there is....this old cannon sitting there."

Commander Perry is known for defeating the British in the Battle of Lake Erie off the shores of Ohio, Michigan and Ontario in the War of 1812.
