A special fundraiser is being held Thursday evening for family members of the victims of the William C. Franks Furniture Store explosion in Wayne. Two employees were killed and the owner was critically injured.
John Goci with the Wayne/Westland Schoolboard tells WWJ the fundraiser will be hosted by the Wayne Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and city officials. Goci says in addition to the firefighters who helped out, they’ll honor others who made a sacrifice.
“We’re also going to honor the employees of Henry’s Service Station, who were the first on the scene to help the local fire department get the victims out of the building,” says Goci.
Goci adds that everyone in the community wants to see the family business survive.
“We’re all pulling that Mr. Frank does well and that he rebuilds, and hopefully we work together better and help each other out,” says Goci.
The fundraiser begins at 7pm at the US-12 Bar and Grill on Michigan Ave in Wayne. Organizers are asking for a $20 donation.
