A teenager accused of beating a woman with a fire place poker and broom is in jail this morning.

Utica police say Jalen Hughbanks, who is know as City Boi Red, was arrested last night in Detroit after being on the run for two days.

He is accused of assaulting the 60-year old woman at her home on Cass Avenue after meeting him on Tuesday.  Police say after being beaten with the poker, broom, fireplace shovel and other tools, the woman was thrown down the basement stairs.

Hughbanks stole the woman’s car.

The woman remains hospitalized with head, facial and body injuries including crushed cheek bones.  Investigators said Friday she is improving.

Charges are pending, but police are expected to recommend attempted murder and car theft charges.
