Consumers Energy is being sued by the families of two people who were killed when a furniture store exploded in December.
The investigation into what caused the devastating explosion at Frank’s Furniture store in Wayne is continuing. Officials say it could take weeks to come to a conclusion.
Nevertheless, the families of two victims, James Zell and Leslie Machniak, have filed suit against Consumers Energy. They claim the utility was negligent by not evacuating the neighborhood after receiving reports of a strong smell of natural gas.
The only surviving victim of the disaster, store owner Paul Franks, continues to recover from severe burns at the University of Michigan Hospital.
