The NCAA tournament, and all it encompasses each March, has become both a blessing and a curse for college basketball.
A blessing because of the enormous recognition it receives, and the financial windfall for the sport. It is arguably the second-most significant sporting event in this nation behind only the Super Bowl.
A curse because it has rendered the regular season to afterthought status.
That's true even for a so-called mid-major program like Oakland University.
The Golden Grizzlies have "danced" twice, including last year, since moving from Division II to Division I a little more than a decade ago. And it brought tremendous attention each time — for all the right reasons — to OU.
Yet, somehow lost in the shuffle of March Madness has been what the Golden Grizzlies are accomplishing during the regular season.
